Black Kat Kollectibles

black kat kollectibles title imageFor our last review of 2014, we traveled to Bird-in-Hand, PA., a small town east of Lancaster. We visited a new vintage store, Black Kat Kollectibles. We had the pleasure of meeting the owner, Rose Nutter, at last year’s Reading Punk Rock Flea Market. So when we received her email, letting us know she’d opened a vintage store, we were pretty jazzed about checking it out.

blk-kat1Located across the street from the Farmers Market on Old Philadelphia Pike (Route 340) and on the ground floor, beneath The Old Village Store and the Bird-in-Hand Antique Market, Black Kat Kollectibles is a hip vintage store with a rockabilly vibe. A fun find in the middle of Pennsylvania dutch country.
vintage glassware and dinnerwareThe shop is huge compared to most that we visit, and has a large inventory of vintage, retro, mid-century and rockabilly style goods. Black Kat has a vast inventory collected by the owner, Rose, and is also a co-operative with carefully curated sections stocked by vendors. The day we visited they were busy preparing for their holiday party (a live band was going to be playing later that night), so unfortunately, we missed visiting with Rose. They’ve got some fun photos of the shindig on Instagram. Looked like it was a swingin’ good time.

Pyrex and Tiki GaloreBesides being impressed by the space, (which makes it easy to browse the aisles and see the goods) we really loved the groovy rockabilly tunes that were coming from a beautiful mid-century turntable. The shop is creatively arranged, with shelves filled with vintage goods from just about every era. There’s vintage Pyrex, bar ware, tiki mugs, lamps, furniture, artwork, a record section (yay – vinyl!) and a large section in back for vintage clothing, shoes and accessories. The prices seemed fair and the condition of the merchandise was very good.
vintage boots, shoes, dresses and accessories at Black Kat KollectiblesThere is SO much to look at make sure to walk thru more than once so you don’t miss anything.
