Tour de Thrift: Annville & Palmyra, PA

map of thrift store trip

This trip we headed east to Annville, PA and then back again on a different road through Palmyra and Hershey. I’d heard about a thrift store in Annville that was supposed to be worth a visit so I was looking forward to our trip. Annville is a small town about 30 minutes east of Harrisburg, located on route 42 between Lebanon and Hershey, PA. It’s the home of Lebanon Valley College and has a welcoming Main street. The day of our trip we headed east out of Harrisburg, on route 22 and decided to make a quick stop and visit another little thrift store along the way.

The Wonders Found thrift store is quite a bit larger than it appears from the parking lot. There are 8 rooms of gently used clothing and household goods to explore. The rooms are very well organized and the clothing is arranged by gender, size and age (adult, children, etc.). One room of women’s clothing has mostly higher end labels such as Talbots, Banana Republic, etc. and the pricing is very reasonable. Plus the store is always running some type of special or sale which makes it very affordable. They also offer yummy snacks and coffee while you shop. May favorite find here so far has been a very cool mid-century lamp.

Blue Mountain Thrift Store Annville PA

Blue Mountain Thirft Store is located in a shopping center on route 422 in Annville, PA. The store is quite large 20,000 sq. feet to be exact, and well lit. If you are looking for good deals on furniture make sure your stop here. The had a very large inventory of furniture the day we were there and some good deals on vintage tables and chairs and small dressers. There is plenty of clothing but I didn’t spend a lot of time looking through the racks. I was busy looking at the rows of housewares.

When you first enter the store they have a “antique” section up front. The items here are priced at the regular retail prices, so you won’t find a big bargain, but they had some really interesting items so if you are looking for something for a collection and they have it, buy it. I think the prices are fair and considering this is a charity thrift store the money helps fund good causes. The saturday we visited the store was busy with families and young folks, possibly students from near by Lebanon Valley college. It was a nice shopping atmoshpere and even though I didn’t find anything I will definitely keep Blue Mountain Thrift on the re-visit list.

Also worth mentioning is the small Cafe next door,  JD Cafe 422. We had a quick bite to eat for lunch, yummy soup and sandwich while we listened to a young singer performing live with her guitar, really fun!

One of the things we love most about exploring new areas is the accidental discovery of a new gem! While we were headed west on 422 (Main Street) Annville, to our next thrift store stop in Palmyra we stumbled on this super fun store called 1st Floor Attic.

If you love to junk shop then you’ll know what I mean when I say I got goosebumps as I entered the front door! I think I almost giggled out loud when I saw the great collection of stuff awaiting to be picked through. I didn’t even get 10 feet into the store and I was picking up a cute metal globe priced fairly at $10. Bill Santaniello, the owner is a really nice guy and willing to chat about the items in his store. He was a lot of fun to chat with and had tons of knowledge he graciously shared. Be sure to follow him on Facebook.

Definitely stop in this fun and filled to the brim shop. Do not forget to explore the back room! If I lived in a bigger house or loft (*sigh) I’d be in big trouble. There was a really cool antique schoolhouse blackboard that would make a great room divider or focal point….someday. This box of festive Pennsylvania banners caught my eye!

Jubillee Store sign Palmyra, PA

This store gets high points for also having a Bologna Outlet! Who can resist some good ol’ bologna?
The Jubilee store is a few blocks off Main Street and tucked in the lower levels of a large old brick building. There are 2 medium sized rooms to explore in this thrift store, plus the front entry way. I was tempted by the cute retro orange office chair, but left it there. In case you haven’t figured it out, I have a bit of an attraction to old lamps. Not sure why, but I seem to stumble across them quite often. This trip was not exception. I snagged this lovely white (she will be white when I clean her up a bit) lamp with what looks to be the original shade…a real bargain at $2.60! And she works!

The Jubilee Store in Palmyra, PA also has a Facebook page so have a look if you want more information. I’m not sure how often we’ll be passing through Palmyra or Annville, PA but if we have the time I know it’ll be worth the trip to re-visit the shops mentioned above. Let me know if you go and if you find something wonderful we’d love to hear about it.
